The Charlatans (UK)

I am a long term fan of this band and met them at Piccadilly Records at the "Modern Nature" album signing. I also met Tim again there at another event. I've also met them again at the signing fur the"Different Days" album. I hope to add to this page and would appreciate any input from other fans (see left to email it).

This is one of the last group shots taken before the loss of Rob Collins in a road accident. He had been the keyboard player for the whole life of the band.

Tim Burgess (He without socks) has become a big fan of Bob Dylan of late. It shows on the last album "Us and Us Only". It was one of the highlights of 2000.

Sadly this site is no more. Just become aware of this new and very active site, with a lot of plans. They already have video downloads. Could it have been DMCA?

Who was The Mad Ferret? Well you could click on the little blighter and find out, but the site is no more.

Wonderland New Album.

NME quote from Tim April 14th. "We've got rid of the church organ sound and that's a great religious, spiritual moment for us." See the bottom of this page.

Charlatans B sides are often interesting.
It is likely that Beggar's Banquet are going to put out a CD later in 2001 with selected "B" sides. The plan is to involve the band in the choice! Why not post a few B side comments. Hmmm! Some may be a bit hard to get hold of!

This is "Songs From The Other Side" Features 16 tracks. See second page here now.

"Down With The Mook" (second track on "How High" Cd single. The Site link was a reminder.Er what's the Mook?

Drum effects not that far removed from traditional Japanese and Aussie style effects too. Odd because on Jan Ist. 2001 I had just been listening to the same on Radio 3!

Er there's actually a record studio and label!

Imperial 109 (second track on "The Only One I Know" I have always rated this track.

Also wholly instrumental, first use of "109". The track is labelled "edit". Is there a longer version out there? It is a very distinctive effort, with hammond, bass and then a complex guitar line, all over cymbals (and tambourine?). Drums enter as the dynamic builds, with steady bass and continued guitar / hammond interplay. Fades, but sounds as though it could go on for some time! Interesting!

Taurus Moaner (inst) Then (the alt take) Both from "Then"

Taurus

Then is very different! An early (sort of) remix? It has a sting in the tail too!

Wonderland
 (Produced by Danny Saber.)

The album seems to show a change of direction. Darker and more electronic. Some B.sides have, perhaps hinted at that, but that's a guess until I hear it! Tim "We've got rid of the church organ sound and that's a great religious, spiritual moment for us.The sound is incredible as well. The music was getting so heavy that there had to be a lightness there. That's why I'm Singing falsetto."

The US studio is located in Wonderland Avenue, hence the title! Logical what?

Gone.
