NewBands 2

This Page relates to some UK new bands.

I can't claim to hear all new bands, but here are a few I have come across. The music may be from Napster or similar sources or as limited issues. If they have a site I'll link it from here. Any band which comes across this site and would like a placing, let me hear you and you may get on. No promises though. A few of the CDs will be deleted and probably appreciate in price! Mercury Prize winner included. Apologies for slow download on this page. The second page is international bands too.

UK radio is a little unfair to new bands. The Radio 1 playlist rarely includes them and the TV coverage is almost non existent. As to the "charts" the less said the better! All pics on this page can be copied to view at larger size for personal reference.

Coldplay

Er yes Yellow! (sorry)

Unofficial, but good website NLA

Newsgroup too

A memorable first album. Could be hard to follow it up though. Chris has a good lyric and vocal style. OK he has not the greatest voice, but there's a real depth of feeling there. The unofficial site is run by Simon. just turned 17!
I have just got hold of "Brothers and Sisters", "Blue Room" and "Shiver" at HMV. Blue Room Is Superb! The mixes seem to be very different and overall it is really impressive. Price tag of £6.99 is still worth it! Its just struck me, theres a clear parallel here with Maurice Deebank of Felt. The relaxed style is very similar. I'm just playing the "Trouble" single. Very good version of "Brothers and Sisters" on it! an early song it may be, but thats not a negative! "Shiver" comes over well too! The band are currently doing rather well on tour Stateside (If Chris doesn't lose his voice!)

MusePage

Whoops! Muse are not here any more. They just shot off to their own page here. Btw can anyone out there tell me if I'm onto the right Tesseract link?

Doves.

Mercury nomination see their website.

The Album Lost Souls.

Limited editions of early material will be hard to get.

Badly Drawn Boy

Mercury Prizewinner 2000

Limited editions on CD and 10" vinyl. Damon Gough shows a very diverse talent unlike a lot of contemporaries who have become rather narrow based.

Toploader Disbanded?

Onkasbigmoka first album, (see right) gave the band an early hit.

Dancing in the Moonlight reissued. This has got to be the best performing reissued single!

Left to right, the album, Dancing CD1, Achilles CD1, CD2.

Four Miles Out

Four Miles Out from Manchester.

Still playing today as Groovy Revolution.

I heard a short instore gig by, I think three of this band some time ago in Piccadilly Records. They have been busy since then, and are about to release an album, for which the pics here are possibly to be used. The band site has a lot of info and also has music to download. Well worth a visit!

Considering doing an album review later.

Unisun Disbanded?

The band pic right shows Dylan Griffiths, Eurig Williams, Trystan Bedlow, Gavin Elias, Rhys Roberts. There has been a percussive (drums) change since the pic was taken.

So far I have heard chwara gems,(welsh) and But for all my glory. The latter demands a replay. Very well written and performed. They are in the studio I understand at the moment.

Band suggested by a contributor to the Coldplay newsgroup. Hmm he is a band member. Owned up Sept. 13th. Heck, why not promote yourself? I had heard of them before. The site has demo downloads available, of six tracks. The band are currently unsigned, but are looking to change that. They are Welsh, as seen on the pics on the website, and, like Gorkys, SFA and Stereophonics they have several tracks in Welsh. Eurig has a light clear voice, not unlike the High, one of the early Manchester bands. (see bands page 4)

The band pic. Very Atmospheric. Not sure what the tipple was!

Singer Eurig Williams is in the front of this photo.
