In defence of creativity (re-written June. 2001) This album is virtually a companion to Kid A, since it was produced fundamentally at the same sessions. Possibly more work was done on some of the tracks, but there are parallels. Several tracks on KidA looked back to a period in 30's France, perhaps. But again more on that later after I actually hear the album. I refer to the electronic music period, known as musique concrete, Xenaxis, Stockhausen by the way. This was way before Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerke and the BBC Radiophonic workshop and Soft Machine. The electronic gear Jonny uses at times stems originally from that time, but presumably also has newer elements as well. That period too was one of edit and assemble techniques, using actual tape, mechanical sequencers and such but NOT on the "pop" side at all until people like Raymond Scott really developed the idea in a big way. Radio "samples" and reverse play were used then. So far I rate Amnesiac weaker than Kid A! |

Just mentioned in the Radiohead Newsgroup and looks a pretty good stab at analysing the album and with the lyrics. It also asks for any alternatives, should you hear differently. |

Kid A. Aha there's a hidden track at the end! Very large booklet, mainly graphics, but the credits are in there at the end, including samples from 1976.

Refer to the "Starsailor" Album By Tim Buckley. "The Healing Festival" bears a strong resemblance to National Anthem as regards the brass effects. It dates from 1970 by the way. Tim uses the voice as an instrumental line in places, with a huge tonal range! (Feb 14 2001) |
Well, no hidden track this time. (at least not on the special red book edition!) |
