There are some bands in this "scene" elsewhere on the site. |

The "Madchester" era was very significant in the 80s. A Revival is in progress. The city still has a presence on the music scene, despite the loss of the Hacienda venue. "Band on The Wall" is one of the better known small venues, as is the "Witchwood". |

Some Manchester area bands are listed elsewhere, since this section is, as you may have guessed an afterthought. |

Yes there IS a site devoted to this era in British popular music. I guess there are more too, should you do a search! Guess I should include a net search box on here! |
There are a whole series of long departed bands out there. I guess there are compilations and that sort of thing too. Pay them a visit! |

Palo Alto |
|
|
Palo Alto was formed over Christmas 2000 when singer Elaine and guitarist Jamie decided to record the albums worth of material they had written over the past few months. Blending driving basslines, the etherial beauty of early Verve, the fuzzed-up guitars of prime Smashing Pumpkins and soaring female vocals into a compelling mix, they have been described as "My Bloody Valentine meeting Bjork on a desolate desert plain, smoking lots of weed and writing some tunes" (Slipped Disc fanzine), and "Cocteau Twins filtered through Joy Division" (City Life). |
