The latest Silverchair album comes after a long gap. Was it worth the wait? |

Australian band, returning after a hiatus following "Neon Ballroom". Verdict on the album? A definite buy. It strikes you on first hearing and demands a replay, some tracks at once in fact which is what I did. I have not heard "Neon Ballroom" yet either! |
|
The Album is not yet released here in the UK. July Release 2002. |

Apologies for delay. This site is now one of several dedicated to the memory of my mother Mabel who passed away on April 24th. I miss her greatly. |

The songs on the album date from the note on the lyrics. The composition covers a considerable period of time! |

A point the band make in the sleeve note is that "pitch correction" software is NOT used on Diorama. This technology "corrects" notes that are sung or played out of tune and has become increasingly popular in recent years. Silverchair choose not to use this computer software on their albums as it's their personal belief that such artificial "perfection" (my quotes) diminishes music. In fact "off pitch" notes can be a deliberate and useful element! |

Some of the tracks are sectional and episodic, with unexpected "breaks" midway. This also features in recent tracks by the UK band MUSE, also reviewed on this site. They too have some "orchestral" leanings in evidence. |

The fungus in my milk When you want no one And you got someone Through the wind You crawl And laugh at burning dunes When no one else will Ever see Now that you know why you feel like you do They're turning their head whilst they wait For no one And finally I know why you feel like letting go I'm watching you watch Over me and I've got The greatest view from here I'm watching you watch Over me and I've got The greatest view from here Mistakes don't mean a thing If you don't regret them So pack your tactic toes for the winter Chain a waterfall to burned and withered skin No-one else will ever see I'm - - - - from here Now that you know why you feel like you do They're turning their head whilst they wait For no one And finally I know why I feel like you're letting go I'm - - - - from here The greatest view from here The greatest view |

He doesn't know how it feels Under my thumb like a bone under nail She's in the know, how's it feel? Live your life under machine guns Canary down the mine Maybe I'm on the lever (x3) Spoiling my broth like a radio kid Programmed computerised mind Waving my luck under your nose Like I found a four leaf clover Live your life under machine guns Canary down the mine Maybe I'm on the lever (x3) Turn the mirrors face the wall Don't you feel a little weak? And I'd catch you when you fall But you're falling all the time Do you need it anymore? (Or) do you need a little more? (x2) Maybe I'm on the lever (x6) Turn the mirrors face the wall Don't you feel a little weak? And I'd catch you when you fall But you're falling all the time Do you need it anymore? Or do you need a little more? (x3) (Or) do you need a little -- |

Won't save you If there is no other side To cross to When you're world's not feeling ugly And the world's not too much Take the world upon your shoulders (x2) And burn, burn, burn, burn, burn Take the world upon your shoulders (1) Half full glasses Lost in empty houses
When you're world's not feeling ugly

Sounds remaining won't strain all the silt from my eyes Bleach the green from the pastures, feast on the grey Of the night, straight from the vines refusal to shine You're my favourite thing - the one that I love You're the one so I'd die for your love Blind the deafened moon, stimulate the tombs of angels I'll open my heart won't fall apart Don't fall apart You're my favourite thing And I feel like letting go |

Blistered skin in a cold hearted pool Distant emotion hides a concrete wall Naked and anchored I'll climb right back To you Love me for my mind, coz I'm a dangerous heart When I've got time to kill I'm coming back (to)for you
Distant memories in a cage by my bed
(And)Love me for my mind, coz I'm a dangerous heart
I'll stake out just to find (Heavy Instrumental break here)
Love me for my mind, coz I'm a dangerous heart
I'll stake out just to find |
That crushed a tired sunrise Born again the day Brings you naivety A laptop souvenir is worth its weight In silver a golden son You'll be home again And I'll be home again Mend in my sleep I'm boxing under water Waddle on the wake Waking on a summer day After all these years Forget about all the troubled times Munificent, artless and ascetic Playing like a scared Enthusiastic pawn And every father's pain Casts a shadow over a broken son You'll be whole again And I'll be whole again All those years I was hurting to feel Something more than life All Lyrics © Daniel Johns 2001 |

Seems so calm And you found the lock To my dorm and opened the doors to my trust Fund my vestry The light in my darkest hour is fear Denies me of anything good so Don't lose your heart you'll need it (too) And Don't lose your heart You'll have to take another pill and tell another lie And lie amongst your lies like tuna in the brine(1.18) Take everything that you're not and don't be so Scared to tamper (temper) with (temper) "tampered with" evidence (tamper) Coz you'll come along for the sun if you come at all The light in the darkest hour is fear Denies me of anything good so Don't lose your heart you'll need it (And Don't lose your heart) You'll have to lie amongst your lies like tuna in the brine And Don't lose your heart (--) Don't lose your heart To lose your heart you'll have to take, take and take, take 3.30)Painting a lie seeing the colours but you seem Closer to everything (x3) (4.12)Closer now than we ever have been We're closer now than we ever should (we) be Closer now than we've ever been before Closer to everything. Busking for change and changing everything Feeble fables aren't changing many things It's my time to shine like a tuna in the brine For my pregnant paws aren't changing anything To all of the animals who keep sipping the sweat From my back, You're making me ill And I can't get enough So take another pill and tell another lie And lie amongst your lies like tuna in the brine |
