Page Five. A few suggestions here gleaned from the Net itself, from references on British Teletext and from a few on line chats. There are also a few other bands I have recently talked about and who are represented on my CD and vinyl shelves.

Wishbone Ash |
Unusual at the time since they had Two lead guitarists, which allowed antiphonal solo exchanges. They have a very long history. Oddly enough, it has been suggested that Muse could benefit from a second guitar, and The Marbles have two guitarists. |

Aphex Twin |
Actually I don't think I've heard any of Richard D. James' work as yet, but he began with the basics, as the '30s composers did. It's too easy to use computers to do the work these days. Opinion is divided on his newest album, |

Autechre Prompted by Mike Kayser in Radiohead newsgroup |
. |
"Garbage" single sure isn't.As to how much they influenced Thom Yorke in preparing Kid A, that's a matter of debate in the newsgroup. They are experimental in many ways. |
UK |
Deep Purple |
Classic Metal band, an influence on many of today's, including the Aussie band Silverchair. They even did some "classical" recording. |

Dire Straits |
The Sultans of Swing. They have an impressive back catalogue. |

Thanks to a reference today on C4 Void this band get a mention. Splinter is an excellent album! The single Low Five is a good sampler for it. A new single is due out soon. The early female vocalist left. The band have a distinctive sound. |
Strangelove |
Early single Visionary is sought after. |
Now is there a James Bond link in some way? Dr. Strangelove I mean. The band have split, but I'm not sure if the singer has a current new band, but their singles and albums are well worth a hearing. |
|
XTC Andy Partridge |
The 1977 single "Science Friction" which was almost released by the new label Virgin is rated at £1000 in a picture sleeve! |
Apparently River Phoenix was musically influenced by Partridge and XTC. With little access to the Phoenix recorded legacy this is impossible to prove! There is the occasional hint, but nothing as yet of substance. |

Associates Billy Mackenzie |
|
Beyond the Sun was released posthumusly in 1997. It is a very worthwhile album, and it's so sad that Billy is not here to expand on it. All profits from the album go to The Samaritans and Macmillan Cancer Relief. I appreciate singer songwriters and rate this work very highly. |
Australia |
INXS |
This band had a very memorable front man in Michael Hutchence. Many of theit tracks were remixed as they were leaders in the dance music scene. Dekadance being one such (on vinyl) |
|
Bluetones |
This band are underrated, and have recently issued CDs via the band website. They have a big backlist os singles. Some releases are Ltd. editions too. |

Primal Scream |
|
There has been a lot of comment on the album left, so I intend to give it a hearing. Link to follow when I do that. They are already in my collection. |
|
Greek. |
Aphrodites Child / Vangelis Papathanassiou |
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on the album 666 is really impressive. I have a sneaky suspicion that Richard Ashcroft may have heard it too. A section on a Verve track is very like part of it. Now where's that tape I did? |
|
Ireland |
Early material was ltd. editions. Labelled as Genuine Teenagers! |
|
Lively band this, with a string of good singles! They were a trio, but have recently added extra members. It will cost if you want a complete collection. They have always had a sense of humour (on hidden tracks etc) which may upset the squeamish |

Before The Calm is an excellent album. This band, like The Verve are from Wigan. A second album has just appeared. |
